What is OCIA?

The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a program for people interested in the Catholic faith no matter where they are on their spiritual journey: whether they are non-Catholics thinking about becoming Catholic, or Catholics who wish to more deeply understand the treasury of their Catholic faith. The program starts with a period of instruction and progresses into a more in-depth experience of Catholicism in which participants are invited into a process of initiation. Often this includes the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism (for those not yet baptized, or perhaps baptized in another denomination), Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.

OCIA is an ongoing process of discernment of one’s desire and readiness for this commitment. One may take their time discerning and there is no obligation to join the Church upon entry into the OCIA program.
